Healthy Schools

King Charles I School is a Healthy School:

A Healthy School is one that:

Addresses the needs of pupils, the staff and the wider community not only within the curriculum, but across the whole-school and learning environment.

The aim is to develop an ethos and environment in school that supports learning and promotes the health and well-being of all.

KING CHARLES AIMS TO:

  • support children and young people in developing healthy behaviours
  • help raise pupil achievement
  • help reduce health inequalities
  • help promote social inclusion

through the 4 broad themes:

  1. Personal & Social Health Education - pupils are provided with the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their lives.
  2. Physical Activity - children/young people are provided with a range of opportunities to be physically active. Children/young people, staff and parents/carers understand how physical activity can help them to be healthier, and how physical activity can improve and be a part of their every day life. The whole-school community is encouraged to undertake physical activity.
  3. Healthy Eating - children/young people have the confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding to make healthy food choices. Healthy and nutritious food and drink is available across the school day.
  4. Emotional Health & Well Being - through the promotion of positive emotional health and well-being, children and young people are helped to understand and express their feelings, build their confidence and emotional resilience, and therefore their capacity to learn the emotional health and well-being of children/young people and staff is supported across the school.

Healthy Schools Week - What Went On?

In our Healthy Schools week we appointed some healthy spies to observe eating habits and sporty activities that were occurring around our school, this helped show how healthy our school was, we found some excellent results and also some areas that could be improved.

There were a lot of people eating healthy snacks at break and the canteen put on some healthier alternatives over lunch, however, we did notice that a large variety of crisps and chocolate were being consumed by Year 11 off site.
