German at King Charles I School: Pupils in Set 1 and 2 have the opportunity to begin studying German as well as French in Year 8 and continue into Years 9. During these first 2 years, pupils cover the basics and learn to communicate with others on a wide range of topics. The GCSE years cover a range of more sophisticated topics, such as the world of work and the international scene. Finally, sixth- formers learn to put forward arguments on politics, the Arts and the environment, amongst others. Everyone is encouraged to practise the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in equal measure. As well as books and worksheets, pupils experience German on tape, CD, television, and the Internet. Sixth formers also have the opportunity to do work experience in Germany. |
