Science at King Charles I School:
The Science Department is staffed by a team of Science teachers, who are all graduates from across a broad part of the science spectrum including Biology, Chemistry and Physics. All Advanced level Science is taught by teachers working within their specialism.
Science teaching is supported by four experienced laboratory technicians who can all work confidently outside their specialism.
The Science Curriculum Area is based within the Queens building and consists of eight laboratories. Four laboratories were refitted during the summer of 2008 and the remaining four were refitted in the summer of 2009. This also included the Technicians preparation areas.
The Science Department includes a purpose designed Sixth Form Science laboratory that consists of a computer suite area and a practical science area. All the Science laboratories are serviced by a set of 30 wireless laptop computers which are transported on two mobile trolleys.
The multi-purpose Science Theatre is also available for workshop sessions, lectures and larger events. The Science Theatre is frequently used for science-based activities which have recently included evening lectures, science club activities etc. It is also a satellite venue for the Science Learning Centre. As well as facilities indoors, we have access to a great diversity of habitats in the school grounds, and areas of heavily-used experimental plots and an extensive area for protected cultivation, including a large newly-commissioned glass house and polytunnels.
