Dear parents, guardians and friends of the School
As I noted in my recent letter to you, the last four months have proved extremely demanding for all of us, whether pupils, colleagues or parents but I hope, overall, that our young people have enjoyed a positive experience at their ‘new’ school. I wish to publicly thank my colleagues who have fully engaged in the challenges of a new school, on a split site, and done a fantastic job over recent months. We have achieved a great deal since last summer but as we well know, there is still much to do. Senior colleagues are presently establishing an innovative curriculum for 2008-9, with our Science College elements at its centre, which will raise levels of engagement and achievement across the School. I will report more on this in the New Year.
In terms of building projects, the high quality Communication Centre and Science and Art classrooms are now well established on the Borrington Road site. They will be joined in September 2008 by a new Art and Dance studio. On the Upper School site, the new Sixth Form Study Centre is well utilised and by next summer, we hope to have totally refurbished four of our Science teaching rooms. The two sites are now serving a key role, after hours, in the Community. Many facilities such as the Sports Hall, Gym and Astro-turf are now booked out to clubs and groups on most evenings. I am presently looking to add our Swimming Pool to the list of facilities available.
Our young people continue to excel in a wide range of fields, as reflected in the pages that follow but Christina Lloyd and Julia Sloan must get a special mention for their excellent achievement in winning the Worcestershire Young Musicians Ensemble Award at the Huntingdon Hall, Worcester on Wednesday 21 November. They sang 2 duets in front of a panel of 3 distinguished adjudicators. The evening was recorded by Hereford and Worcester radio for broadcast on New Year’s Day. My colleagues Katie Semeniuk and Ray Peacock, along with Rachel Tiffany and the team enabled us to become only the second secondary school in the County to gain Eco School status. I thank all for their substantial input into this ongoing project. They are but a few of the many excellent ambassadors that we are fortunate to work with.
May I wish you all an enjoyable Christmas break and a prosperous New Year, in which I will continue to look to you for your support, in raising the levels of opportunity for our young people. All the very best for 2008.
