The Foundation is able to benefit the school and make grants to its students and former students to promote their education.

Students or former students of the school can apply for assistance by completing the application form and may re-apply in subsequent years during their education

The trustees meet several times a year to consider the application forms and will use the following timelines:

• Application forms received by 30th September will be processed during the autumn term.
• Applications forms received after 30th September but before 31st January will be processed during the spring term.
• Application forms received after 31st January but before 30th April will be processed during the summer term.
• Application forms received after 30th April cannot be considered during that academic year but will be taken forward to the following academic year.

Presently, subject to the discretion of the trustees, the annual grant for the first year is £400, and £350 for subsequent years but the level of grant is reviewed each year by the Trustees of the Foundation. The Trustees of the Foundation are independent of the school but consult closely with the headteacher.

The Roy Woodward Educational Foundation was set up via the will of Roy Woodward, who was an old boy of the School and remained interested in its welfare right up to his death. He left a substantial capital sum, which was invested and the income from which provides around £60 000 of income every year for the School and its pupils.

As well as direct grants to the School for specific projects, the Foundation supports its ex-pupils with their further or higher education via grants; these are made to support them in their studies as well as deferring day-to-day expenditure.

The current trustees are Mr J Douglas, Dr N Geary, Mrs L Glencairn-Campbell, Mr T Gulliver, Ms L Heath, and Mr S Wyer (Chair). The clerk to the Foundation is Ms R Summers.

The day has arrived! You’re about to leave school and go out into the big wide world.

Very exciting, but it’s all too easy to lose touch with those good friends you made at King Charles I School, especially if you are off to College or University.

One way to keep in touch is by joining the Old Carolians Association, which is run for and by former pupils of the School, and has been in existence for almost 100 years.

The Association organises social events, publishes an annual magazine, has a website  and a group on Facebook, all to help you keep in touch with former school friends.

If you join straight from leaving school, you don’t have to pay the annual subscription of £5 until 1st January of the second year after you leave. That’s about 18 months of free membership.

The Old Carolians Association may be able to offer you a grant towards your first year of higher education.

Higher education is expensive and every little helps. The Association will be offering a limited number of grants, to pupils leaving King Charles I School this summer and who are going on to higher education.
