Music Tuition
Although some lessons do take place before and after school and at lunchtime, the majority of teaching occurs during the school day. It is therefore inevitable that part of a school lesson will be missed, but a rotating timetable tries to ensure that it is not always the same lesson. It is vitally important that students catch up on any work missed. If there are any difficulties with lesson times, please discuss it with the peripatetic teacher or your child’s music teacher.
Regular practice is a necessity, and we would ask you to monitor this in the student practice diary supplied by Severn Arts. Students are assessed regularly, and you will receive a written report towards the end of the academic year.
It is school policy that students receiving instrumental tuition are expected to play in school ensembles upon recommendation by their teacher and that all students having singing lessons sing in the school choir.
Instrument hire fees are payable in advance. This is arranged directly through Severn Arts via their website
You will also need to organise instrument hire through Severn Arts. Some students will be able to apply for free instrument hire. Parents/carers will be able to apply in the following circumstances:
- Your child is eligible for Free School Meals (excluding Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM))
- Your child is in receipt of Pupil Premium
- Your child has been accepted on and is taking part in the Connect programme
- Your family is in receipt of Universal Credit
- Your child is a Looked After Child or Previously Looked After Child
- You are in receipt of Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
The fees are set out below:
- Individual 20 minute: £17.20
- Individual 30 minute: £25.80
- Group lessons for 2-3 students are also available: £8.60
There are several administration points that are important to consider before booking lessons:
- If a teacher is absent and the lesson cannot be made up, the lesson will not be charged for and we will carry your payment over to the next term or reimburse as necessary.
- Students are expected to notify their teacher in advance if they know they will miss a lesson e.g. due to a school trip. Unfortunately, if a student is absent or if the school is closed due to heavy snowfall or an emergency there will no reimbursement and the lesson will not be made up.
- You may be required to purchase music and strings or woodwind reeds from time to time.
If your child would like to begin music lessons please apply for these lessons via the Severn Arts website
Please note all payments are made directly through Severn Arts rather than via Parent Pay in school.
