Message to our students
Hello everyone, I am Miss Bates, your school counsellor and well-being practitioner. I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and explain how I can support you. My role is to provide a safe, calm and comfortable space where you can talk openly about anything that might be on your mind. This could include friendships, family, school, anxiety and other emotions, low mood, or simply times when things feel overwhelming you don’t need to be facing a serious problem to access support. Sometimes it’s just helpful to talk things through with someone who will listen and try to understand.
Our sessions are your time where you can talk at your own pace and I will listen without judgement helping you to make sense of your thoughts and feelings, together we can explore strategies to help you feel more confident, manage challenges and make positive choices. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to support you in finding what works best for you. I can support you with a range of areas including managing stress and anxiety, building resilience, navigating friendships and improving overall well-being.
If you feel you would benefit from some support, you can speak to a member of staff, your head of year or come and speak to me directly.
You are always welcome to come and talk – whenever you feel ready, I’ll be here to listen.
Message to our parents
Hello, I am Lindsey Bates, I am the school counsellor and well-being practitioner, here at King Charles I school. I’d like to take a few moments to introduce myself and explain how I can support your child during their time here at school. My role is to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgemental and warm space where students can talk about anything that may be affecting their well-being. This might include friendships, family, changes, anxiety, school, low mood, or general pressures.
Teen and preteen years can be a complex time and having a consistent, nonjudgemental space to talk can make a meaningful difference.
I work with students on a 1:1 basis or small group settings. I deliver Wellbeing sessions, Therapeutic Counselling sessions in addition to targeted group focus benefiting from peer interactions including stress and anxiety relating to exams. We also offer a Peer Mentoring program which involves positive interactions delivered by fully trained sixth form students.
At our school, we recognise that life can be challenging and is not always straightforward. We are committed to promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing, and I am proud to work in a setting that places such importance on supporting the whole child.
We work closely with a range of external agencies who, together, can provide additional support for both your child and your family when it is needed.
